Somizi Buyani Mhlongo was born in 1972 in Soweto, South Africa, to now-deceased actress Mary Twala and actor/comedian Ndaba Mhlongo. Somizi was involved in Mzansi showbiz and also had his own profession. His star began to rise at a young age. Somizi Mhlongo has been in the entertainment industry for almost 30 years. He began his career as a teen, only 13 years old when he first starred in the film Scavengers. Somizi’s acting portfolio now includes presenting, choreography, radio, and singing.
Mhlongo blended Kwaito and gospel into his song releases in the 2000s, which were both critically and commercially unsuccessful. In 2017, he released “Ngibonile,” a revival song with house and gqom influences, with DJ and record producer Heavy K. Mhlongo appeared as a featured artist in Vusi Nova’s song “Ntandane” off his Gospel-influenced album “Ngumama” in 2021.
